WHAT IS MINDFULNESS
Often life can feel like walking a tightrope and things can lose perspective. Mindfulness can help us to be fully present and alive in the ‘now’ and to pay attention in a non-judgemental way. Rather than worrying about what
has happened or might happen, mindfulness trains us to respond skilfully to whatever is happening right now. This helps break the grip of unhelpful mental habits and impulses, making way for calmer, kinder and more rational thinking.
ABOUT ME
Sheila Ryan BA
Mindfulness facilitator
Having worked in the voluntary, business, health and education arenas I am acutely aware of the importance of looking after mental health. Building on my work and life experience as well as over 25 years of personal mediation, I am well qualified to create and deliver bespoke Mindfulness in the Workplace programmes as part of company wellbeing initiatives. In addition, I am a certified Mindfulness in Schools Project (MiSP) Paws b teacher and have extensive experience of delivering mindfulness programmes in the primary school setting, a sector I have worked in for over 10 years.

Below are some of the services I provide. However, I also offer talks, workshops, tasters and sitting groups.

RESEARCH
The evidence for mindfulness
MINDFULNESS LEADS TO GREATER WELLBEING
The connection between mindfulness and well-being has been a consistent finding in almost 10 years of research. One study found that two weeks of mindfulness training increased well-being, decreased emotional exhaustion at work, and even increased job satisfaction (Hulsheger et al., 2012).
Mindfulness has been found to increase brain cortex thickness and activation in regions associated with emotional awareness and emotion management (Tang et al., 2015)
EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE CORRELATES WITH BETTER TEAMWORK AND LEADERSHIP
Training in the emotional intelligence skill of compassion has been shown to reduce interpersonal stress and improve relationships (Singer 2016; Kok et al. 2013).
Greater Emotional intelligence has been correlated with higher manager and leader performance (Kerr, Garvin, Heaton, & Boyle, 2006; Rosete & Ciarrochi, 2005)
MINDFULNESS CAN LEAD TO MORE CREATIVE AND INNOVATIVE THINKING
In a survey conducted by the Institute of Mindful Leadership, 93% of leaders reported that mindfulness training helped them create space for innovation, and nearly 70% said it helped them to think strategically (Institute for Mindful Leadership Survey)
